Quarter Self Evaluation
6/1/15
SKILLS - When i came into the final semester i hardly had all of the basic skills that i needed for throwing, but due to staying
after school and coming in lunch for help i found that these skills can be very easy to learn especially if one of your friends are in ceramics. Some skills i needed to improve on would be centering for one which was the hardest skill to master especially with a large amount of clay. Another technique i also learned would be coning the clay to make it easier to center and throw and i also mastered pulling thin and even projects. In order to improve all around you need to get better at all the necessary skills required to throw a project and without these skills there is no throwing. When making final touches to a project you usually need to take care of the detail to make the project look even better. Such as taking the majority of the clay from the bottom of the project so that it looks like its even.
ART ELEMENTS - The main art elements that i have been focusing on would have to be shape, form and design. Shape is important because in order to create a specific project you need to know how to form clay into a shape. I have also found with design when the shape is basic a interesting design using glaze or a wheel altered project will look more attractive in a way.
Whenever i am in ceramics there is no point in time where i am not working on something. Usually when it comes to ceramics there is always something to do and whenever i am in class i am always either working of a project or fixing my blog. And after i have completed every project that is required for the semester i start to make extra projects to make time pass by fast. And when i am done with my projects i usually try and create extra hard projects to challenge myself which amuses me. I have created a whole bunch of projects throughout my tenth grade year but i have never gotten bored of ceramics and hope to buy myself a wheel in the future.

THEME IDEA
6/1/15
This last semester i have only used the clay from the mixer to throw project, and when glazing i use random shapes or patterns on the projects to make it more complex looking. My theme for this last semester would have to be contrasting glazes such as glazing the inside of a vase shadow green and leaving the outside just clear glaze which would be two contrasting glazes.
THEME OUTLINE
6/1/15
1. What did i make?
-Three different sized plates with opposite colors,
-Three vases
-One cup
-A lot of bowls which all of these have to do with contrasting different colors.

2. How did i make it?
-On the wheel
-Using techniques such as centering.
-Pulling the walls of each project as evenly as possible using a sponge.

3. Why? Theme Statement?
-Different glazes to contrast separate parts of each project.
-For my bowl i used orange glaze on the inside and clear glaze on the outside.
- Almost all of my projects contrast different colors.

THEME DRAFT
6/1/15
This year i chose contrasting colors for my theme. When contrasting colors i glazed many different projects with different color glazes that contrasts to each other which also pinpoints certain part of the projects.
Throughout my Sophomore year of ceramics i have made a whole lot of projects, for my theme i made three different sized bowls with different colors, a couple of vases, on cup, three plates and more and more bowls that all have to do with contrasting colors.
Every single one of my projects on my website were all thrown on the wheel. The mixer clay has usually just been vashon white used over and over again but i have seen some students put seamix and vashon white in the mixer so i suppose i used two different types of clay throughout the second semester. This year while i was throwing on the wheel the technique i used to make the projects all even was using a small sponge when pulling the walls of any project. The sponge usually most of the time when the clay isn't a disaster makes the clay very even especially when the clay is perfectly centered.
When glazing my projects i used different color glazes to contrast the main parts of the projects. An example would be one of my bowls was shadow green inside. The different colors analyze the inside from the outside of the bowl.
At the beginning of the year when i chose my theme i soon started to think more about what to make and what kind of colors i was going to use to glaze. When these things occurred it got me thinking about different shapes/part of projects that can look better than they already do. The glaze colors were only added to emphasize different parts of each project.

ESSAY
6/1/16
This year for my them i chose to do contrasting colors. One main reason i chose this was because i love to draw on anything especially my projects. I also noticed how different color glazes emphasized specific parts to the project. One example would be the inside and outside of some of my bowls.
Throughout my Sophomore year of ceramics i have made a whole lot of projects, for my theme i made three different sized bowls with different colors, a couple of vases, on cup, three plates and more and more bowls that all have to do with contrasting colors. My most favorite part of ceramics is the glazing part especially designing projects and putting symbols on them. An example of contrasting colors would be when I glazed my cup with shadow green on the inside and blue glaze on the outer side and both the colors meet at a point.
Whenever I glazed my projects I usually always pick two colors that contrast to each other but I really only use either shadow green for most of my projects or clear glaze. On my bowls I would mostly use a darker color on the inside and clear glaze with paint sprayed on the outer wall of the bowl. I have also realized that when I throw with different types of clay mixed together it usually is much easier to center and pull evenly.
Every project I have created in the second semester has been thrown on the when. The main problem I have had with throwing is not realizing how small the projects are when they are fired so I always had to make the bowls, cups/projects a bit bigger then I would want it to be. The only clay I have ever used to throw on the wheel is the clay in the mixer which is different types of clay mixed together. To pull up the walls evenly I would usually use a small sponge.
At the beginning of the second semester when I chose my theme the only thing I could think about is what kind of designs/glaze I am going
put on my projects that I am going to make. This also led me to think about how I am going to shape my future projects to make a certain spot that would catch your eye.
